A superb sprint finish by Jørgen Graabak powered Norway to a home team win at the International Ski Federation Nordic Combined World Cup in Lillehammer.

Graabak outsprinted German rival Fabian Rießle in the final metres at the resort which hosted the 1994 Winter Olympic Games.

The home team of Graabak, Jarl Magnus Riiber, Jan Schmid and Espen Andersen produced a series of superb ski jumping performances and led by 46 seconds over German heading into the cross-country skiing finale.

Riiber produced the longest leap of the day, managing 102.5 metres, while Graabak managed 97m and Andersen 98m.

Eric Frenzel had led the German team with 95m while World Cup leader Akito Watable of Japan managed 99m.

Japan started the skiing 50 seconds behind while France, Austria and Finland were also within touching distance.

Schmid held Norway's lead at 15 seconds before Anderson extended this to 17 when holding off Johannes Rydzek.

German team debutant Vinzenz Geiger then skied superbly to close the gap to Riiber before Graabak edged clear by 1.7 in a frenetic finale.

France held off a strong Finnish challenge by 0.6 seconds to finish third, 21.4 seconds behind the winners.

Japan had the settle for fifth while Austria were sixth.

A gunderson World Cup event will take place tomorrow.
