Paralympic champion Gordon Reid of Britain fought back from 5-1 down in the third set to secure his place in the semi-finals of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters with a battling victory over Gustavo Fernandez in Loughborough.

Reid produced a superb comeback to clinch a 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 triumph against the Argentinian world number one at the Loughborough Tennis Centre.

The 26-year-old Briton was on the brink of defeat in the third and final set but rallied to secure a superb win in front of his home crowd.

Reid is due to take on Japan's Shingo Kunieda in the last four.

"In regards to my career, that was the best comeback and I can take that confidence into the rest of the tournament with me," said Reid.

Kunieda continued his dominant run of form at the tournament as he recorded his third straight victory, beating Stefan Olsson of Sweden 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The result saw the Japanese player qualify for the semi-finals as the winner of Group B.

Reid's team-mate and doubles partner Alfie Hewett also progressed to the last four by overcoming Frenchman Stephane Houdet for the first time in his career.

Hewett, winner of a Paralympic silver medal with Reid in the doubles at Rio 2016, dropped the opening set but recovered to claim a 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 victory.

The British player is now scheduled tol face Belgium's defending champion Joachim Gerard for a place in the final.

In the women's event, Japan's Yui Kamiji cruised into the semi-finals as she dispatched Katharina Kruger of Germany 6-1, 6-1.

Dutchwoman Aniek Van Koot won her Pool A match with Sabine Ellerbrock after the German player retired hurt when trailing 7-6, 2-1.
