The 23-year-old followed up his chart-topping performance in the men’s kayak senior event yesterday with a score of 1,936.66 points at the White Water Park.

Frenchman Sebastien Devred finished second with 1,796.67 points, while Czech Republic’s Lukas Cervinka came third with 1,721.67.

Jackson has dominated freestyle kayak in recent years and won the K1 and C1 double at the 2015 World Championships in Ottawa in Canada.

Cervinka is expected to be one of the main challengers for the C1 gold on Saturday (December 2), after winning the past three European titles.

"Before each competition I feel really good," the Czech said.

"I don’t feel stress anymore.

"There’s not much difference competing here than in the Europeans, but it is better here.

"There are a lot of really good people here."

In the preliminary round of the women’s kayak senior event, Japan’s Hitomi Takaku threw down the challenge to Jackson’s sister, Emily.

She finished on 1,306.67 points, which was 293.34 more than defending world champion in second.

"I’m really happy," Takaku, who won a World Cup event at the same venue last year, said.

"It was nice for me out there today.

"The competition is very exciting.

"I had to change my plan just a little bit and I’ll try for bigger loops in the final."

France’s Marlene Devillez posted the highest single run of the day with 706.67 points and finished third with a total of 1,010.

Action in San Juan is due to continue tomorrow with the quarter-finals and semi-finals in the men’s and women’s kayak senior events, and the semi-finals in the men’s and women’s kayak junior and men’s canoe competitions.

The finals are scheduled for Saturday.
