Japan’s Yui Kamiji eased to victory in her opening match of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters in Loughborough.

Kamiji produced a fine display at the Sport Loughborough Tennis Centre, with the winner of three of this year’s Grand Slam titles overcoming The Netherlands’ Aniek Van Koot 6-1, 6-0.

The result pushed the Japanese star to the top of the Pool A standings, where she was joined by Sabine Ellerbrock.

The third seeded German claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win against her compatriot Katharina Kruger.

Tournament second seed Diede De Groot began her campaign in style, with the Dutch player triumphing 6-1, 6-0 victory over Britain’s Lucy Shuker in Pool B.

Marjolein Buis added to her the Dutch success, as she beat South Africa’s Kgothatso Montjane 6-3, 7-6.

Belgium’s Joachim Gerard made an ideal start to the defence of his men’s singles crown, as he overcame home favourite Gordon Reid 6-3, 7-5.

Gerard was joined at the top of the Pool A standings by Gustavo Fernandez, with the Argentine clinching a 6-3, 6-2 success against France’s Nicolas Peifer.

Britain’s Alfie Hewett, the French Open champion, beat Sweden’s Stefan Olsson 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 in his first Pool B match.

France’s Stephane Houdet fell to a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Shingo Kunieda of Japan in the second match in the pool.

Defending quad singles champion David Wagner began with a victory, as the American beat Brazil’s Ymanitu Silva 6-4, 6-4 in Pool A.

The Pool B match saw Britain’s Andy Lapthorne overcome his compatriot Antony Cotterill 6-1, 6-4.
