The Indian archer overcome South Korea’s Kim Jongho in a tightly fought final at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Bangladesh's capital city.

Verma, an Incheon 2014 Asian Games silver medallist, held a one point advantage heading into the closing stages of the gold medal match,

He was pegged back by Kim, who was able to force a tiebreak with the scores locked at 147 points apiece.

Both men were able to score a 10, but Verma was awarded victory due to his arrow being closer to the centre of the target.

“I did my best,” said Verma.

“Everybody prepared to get this achievement, to get this medal, and right now it’s just a good feeling.

“We are already preparing for the Asian Games just like we did last time, because we did very well.

“We’d like to repeat the same result this time, and every time.”

South Korea’s Hong Sung Ho won bronze by overcoming India’s Gurwinder Singh 148-145.

There was joy for South Korea in the three further individual events, with their archers celebrating gold.

The women’s compound event was won by Song Yun Soo, who beat her team-mate Choi Bomin 141-140 in the final.

India’s Jyothi Surekha Vennam rounded off the podium, as she overcame Chinese Taipei’s Wu Ting-Ting 146-142 in the bronze medal match.

An all-South Korean women’s recurve gold was won by Lee Eun Gyeong, as she edged top seed Choi Minseon in a tiebreak.

Their compatriot Ki Bo Bae won 7-3 against Chinese Taipei’s Lo Hsiao-Yuan in the bronze medal clash.

A one-sided men’s recurve final ended in a 6-0 victory for South Korea’s Lee Seung-yun over Japan’s Kawata Yuki.

China’s Wang Depeng secured a 6-4 Muhammed Akmal Nor Hasrin in the bronze medal match,

Team finals will bring the Championships to a close tomorrow.
