Georgia’s Geno Petriashvili won the 125 kilograms title as the first four men's freestyle competitions took place today at the Under-23 World Wrestling Championships in Bydgoszcz in Poland.

Petriashvili beat Russia’s Magomedamin Dibirov 11-0 in the final to add to his triumph from the 2017 Senior World Championships in French capital Paris in August.

The 23-year-old was leading 5-0 at the break and ended the match with a takedown and two gut wrenches for an emphatic win.

On the day, the Georgian heavyweight racked up four technical falls and outscored his opponents 45-1.

The bronze medals were won by Iran's Amin Hossein Taheri and Ukraine's Danylo Kartavyi at the expense of Hungary's Mihaly Nagy and China's Zhanxiang Hu respectively.

Also tasting success today was Japan’s Rinya Nakamura, who defeated Kazakhstan’s Kuat Amirtayev 12-2 in the 61kg final.

The 2011 cadet world bronze medallist overpowered his opposite number with 10 second-period points after trailing 2-2 on criteria at the midway stage. 

Victory secured him his first world title.

Turkey's Sedat Ozdemir was one of the two bronze medallists after overcoming Moldova's Mihai Esanu.

He was joined on the third step of the podium by Russia's Islam Dudaev, who beat Belarus' Husein Shakhbanau.

The 86kg final saw World Championships debutant Alikhan Zhabrailov of Russia rattle off three late takedowns to edge out two-time world medallist Azamat Dauletbekov of Kazakhstan, 8-7.

Israel's Uri Kalashnikov and Georgia's Irakli Mtsituri were the bronze medallists with Belarus' Raman Chytadze and Cuba's Lazaro Daniel Hernandez Luis missing out.

At 57kg, Cuba’s Reineri Andreu Ortega rallied to score six unanswered points in the second period of the gold-medal match to defeat six-time European Championships medallist Mikyay Salim Naim of Bulgaria.

The 2017 senior Pan American bronze medallist triumphed 6-1.

Azerbaijan's Parviz Ibrahimov beat Kazakhstan's Zhandos Ismailov to one of the bronze medals.

The other went to Turkey's Suleyman Atli to the disappointment of China's Wanhao Zou.

Tomorrow marks the end of action in Bydgoszcz and will see the remaining four men’s freestyle weights - 65kg, 70kg, 74kg and 97kg - take centre stage.
