Following the first event in Innsbruck, Austria, the second International Luge Federation World Cup of the season will see sliders cross the border to Winterberg, Germany, from tomorrow.

Competition at the VELTINS-EisArena will include the opening round of this year's Sprint World Cup.

The action gets underway at 10am tomorrow with the men’s singles, in which Russian Semen Pavlichenko will be hoping to continue his great start to the season.

The 26-year-old won gold in Innsbruck with a time of 1min 41.771sec to begin the Olympic campaign on a positive note.

However, he will face very stiff competition from Germany's Felix Loch, the Olympic champion at both the 2010 and 2014 Olympic Games.

His gold medal at Vancouver 2010 made him the youngest Olympic gold medallist in men's luge history at 20.

The doubles gold in Innsbruck was claimed by German pair Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken with both runs coming under the 40-second mark.

They will be challenged by their compatriots Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt, who will be looking to improve on their bronze medal performance in Austria by coming out on top in their homeland.

The duo won gold in both the doubles and mixed team event on their Olympic debut at Sochi 2014.

Natalie Geisenberger got her quest for a sixth successive overall World Cup title off to a perfect start in Innsbruck, finishing first with a time of 1:20.488, and the Sochi 2014 double gold medallist will be looking for a repeat performance in Winterberg.

Her closest challenger is likely to be experienced compatriot Tatjana Hufner, who she pipped to the gold medal in Sochi.

The final event of the weekend sees the opening of the Sprint World Cup for the 2017-2018 season.

Last year's champion, Russia's Roman Repilov, did not have the best of starts to the regular season in Innsbruck as he finished down in 13th in the men's singles.

He will be hoping the first sprint event can be his kickstart to the campaign.

However, he will face tough competition from Loch, who won the Sprint World Cup event in Winterberg last year.

The favourites for the doubles event will again be current world champions Eggert and Benecken, who, like Loch, won their event in Winterberg last season.
