The Swedish team, skipped by Niklas Edin, proved too strong for their Norwegian opponents as they claimed a comfortable 8-3 win at the Eissportzentrum Lerchenfeld.

Scotland await for the defending champions in the final, scheduled for Saturday (November 25), after they earned a dramatic 9-8 victory over hosts Switzerland.

Sweden dominated their clash with Norway - a repeat of the gold medal match last year - from start to finish and they were 4-0 in front after three ends.

Edin's team extended their lead to 6-1 after the sixth end and never looked likely to squander their advantage as they wrapped up a dominant triumph.

"We’ve had a really good week so far but suddenly it’s a win/lose situation," the Swede said. 

"We refocused for this game really well and we had a really good start and that’s what made the difference. 

"We’ve got the hammer in the final, which is important at this level. 

"Other than the one game we lost, we’ve had a pretty-much perfect week. 

"We’ve got what it takes, but we’ve got to deliver one more time.”

In the women's event, Italy, Scotland, Sweden and Switzerland had already qualified before the final session of round-robin action.

Sweden will take on Italy in the last four, while Switzerland go up against Scotland.

Russia, the defending champions, failed to make it through and finished fifth in the group.

Sweden completed the opening stage of the tournament with a 100 per cent record as they secured their ninth consecutive win of the tournament by beating Italy 9-2.

Scotland and Switzerland ended tied for second with a seven win and two loss record.

The Swiss team were narrowly beaten 6-5 by the Czech Republic in their last group game, while Scotland thrashed Hungary 9-3.

The women's semi-finals and both bronze medals are due to be held tomorrow.
