Morocco and Egypt booked their place in the semi-finals of the men’s International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) World Championships African Qualification Tournament in contrasting fashion in Durban today.

The Moroccan side recorded two wins, including over Egypt, as the group stage of the event at the Tongaat Indoor Sports Centre came to a close.

Morocco effectively ensured they would progress to the last four when they thrashed Kenya 86-27 in their opening contest of the day.

The Moroccan team then sealed second place in the seven-team group with an impressive 71-52 triumph over Egypt, who have qualified in third.

Egypt had earlier beaten Angola 80-42 to all-but secure a semi-final berth.

South Africa squeezed through to the next phase after they clinched fourth spot by virtue of a 54-24 triumph over Angola.

Algeria completed the group phase of the tournament in the South African city as they recorded their sixth straight win with a 66-47 victory against South Africa.

In the women's event, South Africa usurped Zimbabwe into second place with a commanding 47-7 success against Kenya.

The winners of the tournament will progress to the IWBF World Championships in German city Hamburg next year.

Ghana and Nigeria both withdrew from the men's competition for financial reasons.
