India remain on course for a considerable haul of medals after five athletes from the nation secured places in the semi-finals of the International Boxing Association Women’s Youth World Championships in Guwahati.

Flyweight Jyoti Gulia began the Indian charge as she dispatched Italy's Giovanna Marchese at the Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium.

Gulia dominated the contest from start to finish and wrapped up victory by unanimous decision.

Zhansaya Abdraimova of Kazakhstan awaits for the Indian boxer in the last four after she edged Heaven Garcia of the United States 3-2.

Shashi Chopra progressed in the featherweight division after she ousted 10th seed Sandugash Abilkhan of Kazakhstan.

Chopra was awarded the bout on all five judges' scorecards to seal a place in the next round.

Ankushita Boro was made to work the hardest of the Indian boxers who took to the ring today as she edged past Rebecca Nicoli of Italy at welterweight.

Boro eventually emerged victorious courtesy of a split decision, with three of the five officials adjudging her to have won the encounter.

Neetu, the top seed in the light flyweight event, had no such trouble as she swept aside Germany's Maxi Klotzer.

The Indian boxer looked in supreme touch and made light work of Klotzer by claiming victory by unanimous points decision.

Sakshi Choudhary enjoyed a similarly commanding win at bantamweight as she beat China's Lu Xia to make the last four.

India did not have it all their own way, however, as Niharika Gonella was defeated by England's Georgia O'Connor in their middleweight bout.

The competition in the Indian city continues on Friday (November 24) following a rest day tomorrow.
