Egypt and Morocco strengthened their hopes of reaching the men’s International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) World Championships African Qualification Tournament semi-finals in Durban.

On the penultimate day of group stage action at the Tongaat Indoor Sports Centre, both teams were able to secure impressive victories.

Egypt produced an impressive display against Kenya, as they comfortably swept aside their opponents by a 95-16 score.

Their victory had followed a 66-36 win for Morocco over Angola.

It left Egypt and Morocco with an identical record of three wins and a defeat, placing the teams in second and third respectively.

They remain behind defending champions Algeria, who have a 100 per cent record from the five matches.

Algeria eased to a 79-23 win over Zimbabwe as they prepare for the semi-final stage of the competition.

South Africa occupy fourth place in the standings, after they beat Zimbabwe 61-36 in the final match of the day.

There was also a first victory for Angola, as they overcame winless Kenya 87-22.

Algeria, who are also the defending women’s champions, continued their impressive form.

They sealed a 64-6 win over Zimbabwe to top the standings with three victories from three matches.

South Africa could move above Zimbabwe into second place tomorrow, when they seek a second win when they meet Kenya.

Seven teams are featuring in a single group of the men’s event, with the top four at the end advancing to the semi-finals.

The winners of the event will progress to the IWBF World Championships in German city Hamburg next year.

Ghana and Nigeria both withdrew from the men's competition for financial reasons.
