India enjoyed a successful day at the International Boxing Association Women’s Youth World Championships as five of their athletes progressed to the quarter-finals on home soil in Guwahati.

Ankushita Boro put in an impressive performance to reach the last eight of the light welterweight category as she beat Cagla Aluc of Turkey at the Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium.

Boro was awarded the contest on all five judges' scorecards as she dispatched her Turkish opponent in unanimous fashion.

Shashi Chopra joined her compatriot in securing a comprehensive victory as she outclassed Lin Li Wei-Yi of Chinese Taipei in the featherweight division.

Earlier on the third day of competition in the Indian city, another home hope, Jyoti Gulia, booked her place in the quarter-finals of the flyweight event.

Gulia proved too strong for Ukraine's Anastasiia Lisinska as she emerged with a unanimous points decision.

Neetu continued the Indian charge as she beat Bulgaria's Emi-Mari Todorova in the last 16 of the light flyweight division.

"It was an easy bout for me," the victorious Indian told the Times of India.

"I had beaten her earlier in Bulgaria too and I knew how to tackle her."

The last Indian boxer to make it to the last eight was Sakshi Choudhary, who progressed at bantamweight following a battling 4-1 win over fourth-seeded Indira Shudabaeva of Russia.

Elsewhere, Mongolia's Namuun Monkhor recorded a superb win as she earned a third-round stoppage in her clash with Ireland's Labhaoise Clarke in the featherweight category.

The event in Guwahati is due to continue tomorrow.
