Spain will host Russia at the International Swimming Federation Women’s European Water Polo World League, which begins tomorrow.

It will prove a tough test for the hosts, with Russia having finished as the World League bronze medallists earlier this year.

The match in Dos Hermanas will be the first of six rounds of the European preliminaries, which will run until May.

Hungary have travelled to Utrecht for their first tie, where they will take on hosts The Netherlands.

The second round of fixtures will take place on December 19, with action resuming after a month break on January 30.

Ties will then be held on February 27 and March 27, before the final round of the preliminaries on May 1.

Following the conclusion of the six rounds, the top three European teams will advance to a Super Final.

The Super Final will take place from May 28 to June 2.

They will be joined for four teams from the Intercontinental Tournament and the host team.

The United States have won the event for the last four years.
