Al Ain will stage a World Shooting Para Sport World Cup competition for the third straight season, it has been confirmed.

The city in the United Arab Emirates has acted as the season opener for the last two years and will reprise the role for 2018.

Competition will take place from March 22 to 27, with action helping athletes to prepare for the World Shooting Para Sport Championships in Cheongju, South Korea.

It will also offer shooters the final chance to earn minimum qualifying score points in 25 metres and 50m events before the Championships, which are scheduled to take place from May 1 to 12.

The Championships will offer 300 shooters from 60 countries their first chance to earn quota places for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

“We are excited to return to the shooting ranges in Al Ain,” said Tyler Anderson, World Shooting Para Sport manager.

“The local organising committee did an excellent job hosting the World Cups the last two years, and I have no doubt they will give the athletes another fantastic experience as they gear up for the 2018 World Championships.

“We are especially thrilled to take advantage of Al Ain’s world-class shotgun range.

"With Para trap now part of the federation’s family, it is important we continue integrating the discipline into our events and give athletes as many opportunities to compete.”

When Al Ain hosted the first competition of 2017 in February, it saw multiple world records set as a new finals format made its debut in the single position events.

Under the format, finals consisted of two five shot series instead of a three shot series, which increased the total number of shots from 20 to 24.

Further history will be made at the 2018 World Cup event, as Para trap will feature alongside rifle and pistol events.

Para trap was officially added as a World Shooting Para Sport in May, with a first World Cup for the discipline taking place in Lonato during September.

The 2017 World Cup season concluded last weekend in Bangkok, with the event in Thailand’s capital coming after competitions in Croatia, Italy and Poland.
