Russia and Ukraine won the final gold medals of the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation Wheelchair Fencing World Championships in Rome today.

Russia made amends for their loss in the men's team sabre final yesterday by defeating France for gold in the corresponding épée event.  

Maxim Shaburov, Artur Yusupov, Roman Fedyaev and Alexander Kuzyukov combined for a 45-25 victory over the reigning Paralympic champions.

It marked a third gold of the event for Shaburov after his earlier épée and sabre individual successes at the Hilton Rome Airport venue.

Iraq sealed bronze after winning 45-36 against hosts Italy.

Ukraine won gold in the women's team sabre final.

Nadiia Doloh, Nataliia Morkvych, Olga Yesina and Yevheniia Breus combined to win 45-31 against Italy in the final.

Poland edged Russia 45-44 to claim bronze in thrilling fashion.

Russia nevertheless finished the six-day event with six golds, seven silvers and 11 bronzes to finish top of the medals table.

Italy managed five golds, three silvers and three bronzes for second place.

Ukraine accrued three golds, two silvers and four bronzes for third.
