Jinho Park led a South Korean clean sweep of the R3 10 metres air rifle prone mixed SH1 event as action began at the World Shooting Para Sport World Cup in Bangkok.

The reigning world champion topped the podium in front of compatriots Lee Jang-ho and Sim Jae-yong in the Thai capital.

Park scored a total of 253.2 points to secure the gold medal in the final World Shooting Para Sport World Cup event of the year.

Lee took silver as he finished with 250.9 points, while Sim earned bronze having amassed a total of 229.9.

South Korea also emerged triumphant in the R4 10m air rifle standing mixed SH2 competition as the dominant Asian nation claimed the gold and silver medals.

Lee Jiseok clinched gold as he narrowly beat team-mate Jeon Young-jun with a score of 252.6 points.

Jeon was only 0.3 adrift as he was agonisingly forced to settle for the silver.

Michael Johnson of New Zealand, a three-time Paralympic Games medallist who won gold at Athens 2004, came third on 231.1 points.

South Korea were denied a monopoly of the three competitions held on the opening day of competition in Bangkok as Australian shooter Christopher Pitt earned the P3 25m pistol mixed SH1 honours.

Pitt hit 23 targets to seal the gold medal ahead of Park Seak-yun, who was two behind in second place.

Park Myung-soon, also of South Korea, did enough for bronze on 17 targets.

The event continues tomorrow.

The minimum qualification standard points for next year's World Shooting Para Sport Championships, in Cheongju, are on offer.
