Defending champion Hannah Roberts triumphed in the BMX Freestyle Park World Cup event at the season-ending International Festival of Extreme Sports (FISE) World Series leg in Chengdu.

The 16-year-old American produced a strong performance to top qualification at the International Cycling Union-sanctioned competition yesterday.

She was able to replicate her display which impressed the judges, eventually giving her a score of 87.60 points.

Roberts finished clear of Germany’s Lara Lessman and Chile’s Macarena Perez, who rounded off the podium on 84.20 and 81.60 respectively.

The result saw Roberts clinch the overall series title on 38,200 points, with her nearest challenger Nikita Duccaroz of the United States second on 32,900.

“I just want to keep pushing BMX as far as I can, learning new tricks and progressing for myself,” said Roberts.

“BMX is really important to me and the future of it is kind of what we’re all trying to progress here at FISE.”

The men’s finals will take place tomorrow, with Croatia’s Marin Rantes having topped today’s qualification on 88 points.

BMX freestyle park was officially added to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games programme earlier this year.

The semi-finals of the first International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Parkour World Cup took place today, with finals scheduled for tomorrow.

It comes amid an ongoing row over the governance of the sport.

The competition sees men and women race against the clock in speed run events.

The conclusion of the FISE World Series season finale comes just two days before a meeting between the FIG and Parkour Earth, the organisation which claims to be the responsible for the running of the sport.

The two organisations, who have been at the centre of a protracted feud over the governance of parkour in recent months, are set to meet at the FIG's headquarters in Lausanne on Tuesday (November 7).
