Defending champion Hannah Roberts of the United States topped the qualification round in the women's BMX Freestyle Park World Cup event at the season-ending International Festival of Extreme Sports (FISE) World Series leg in Chengdu today.

The 16-year-old was in ominous form and scored a total of 85.80 points on the opening day of action at the International Cycling Union-sanctioned competition.

Macarena Perez of Chile qualified in second place with 80.20 points, while third went to Roberts' compatriot Angie Marino, who registered 79.00 points at the Nan Hu Park in the Chinese city.

"I’m definitely nervous, but it’s pretty exciting," said Roberts.

Britain's Jack Clark led the way in the men's event as his routine yielded 87.60 points.

Clark's total was just 0.40 in front of second-placed Colton Walker of the US, while American rider Pat Casey was third on 84.40 points.

BMX freestyle park was officially added to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games programme earlier this year.

Today also saw the launch of the first International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Parkour World Cup, which comes amid an ongoing row over the governance of the sport.

Qualification for both men and women took place today, with semi-finals scheduled for tomorrow.

The competition sees men and women race against the clock in speed run events.

The conclusion of the FISE World Series season finale comes just two days before a meeting between the FIG and Parkour Earth, the organisation which claims to be the responsible for the running of the sport.

The two organisations, who have been at the centre of a protracted feud over the governance of parkour in recent months, are set to meet at the FIG's headquarters in Lausanne on Tuesday (November 7).

Parkour was unsuccessfully proposed by FIG to be added to the Olympic programme at Tokyo 2020.
