Denmark’s Anders Antonsen will hope to justify his top seeding in the men’s singles competition at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Bitburger Open, with action set to begin tomorrow.

The 20-year-old, who claimed a silver medal at the European Championships earlier this year, will head to the Grand Prix Gold event in Germany in high spirits.

Antonsen made an impressive run at last week’s BWF French Open, until he was eventually eliminated in the semi-finals.

His biggest threats at the Saarlandhalle Saarbrücken are expected to come from England’s Rajiv Ouseph and France’s Brice Leverdez, who have been seeded second and third respectively.

The United States’ Beiwen Zhang will begin as the favourite in the women’s singles competition, as she looks to add to her Dutch Open title from earlier this year.

She is likely to face competition from the Thailand duo of Nitchaon Jindapol and Busanan Ongbamrungphan, who have been named as the next highest seeds for the tournament.

The pairing also claimed bronze at this year’s World Championships in Glasgow.

Taiwan’s Chen Hung Ling and Wang Chi-Lin have been given top seeding in the men’s doubles competition, while Bulgaria’s Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva.

Action is due to begin tomorrow with qualification matches taking place, as several shuttlers seek to complete the main draw line-ups.
