World number one Tai Tzu-Ying secured a comfortable straight games victory to progress to the women’s singles semi-finals of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) French Open.

The Taiwanese player went head-to-head with Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon, who was hoping to back up her victory at the Denmark Open earlier this month.

Intanon would prove unable to repeat her achievement at the BWF World Superseries competition in Paris, as Tai dominated proceedings.

She would emerge as a 21-17, 21-12 winner at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin to reach the last four.

Tai will now face the challenge of South Korea’s Jang Mi Lee or China’s He Bingjiao, with the pair poised to meet in a quarter-final tie.

Second seed Pusarla V Sindhu also advanced to the semi-finals, courtesy of a 21-14, 21-14 win over China’s Chen Yufei.

She will play the winner of the match between Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi and South Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun.

India also boast a semi-finalist in the men’s singles draw, as H.S. Prannoy beat Jeon Hyeok Jin of South Korea 21-16, 21-16.

It could set up an all-Indian tie in the last four, with Prannoy’s compatriot Kidambi Srikanth poised to face China’s Shi Yugi in the quarter-finals.

Srikanth is hoping to continue his momentum, having won the Denmark Open.

Denmark’s Anders Antonsen remains in contention to win the tournament, as he secured a straight games 21-16, 21-16 triumph over Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long Angus.

The Dane will face either Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting or Japanese qualifier Kenta Nishimoto in the semi-finals.

Competition will continue tomorrow.
