Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel won the latest stop on the International Cycling Union Cyclo-Cross World Cup event today in the sand dunes of Koksijde in Belgium today.

It complete a double victory for The Netherlands after Maud Kaptheijns won the earlier women's race.

Van der Poel formed part of an early breakaway and then charged ahead on his own on the 2.890 metres lapped course.

He triumphed in 1 hour 02min 41sec to win by 39 seconds.

Compatriot Lare van der Haar settled for second place in 1:03:20.

Wout van Aert led the home challenge by crossing 11 seconds further back to take bronze.

Kaptheijns broke clear midway through and eventually crossed in 44min 20sec to win the shorter women's race by 52 seconds.

Fellow countrywoman Sophie der Boer finished in second place in 45:12.

Belgium's Sanne Cant finished a further 35 seconds back to take third place.

She still, however, leads the overall World Cup standings while van der Poel heads the men's event.
