Top seed Pattarasuda Chaiwan today crashed out of the women's singles of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Junior Championships.

The 16-year-old, from Thailand, was beaten 21-19, 14-21, 22-20 in a see-saw 54 minute battle against sixth seed, Chinese 17-year-old Cai Yanyan, at the GOR Among Rogo Arena, in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

There were no other shocks with home favourite and third seed Gregoria Mariska Tunjung safely through to the semi-finals tomorrow, where she will face Yanyan, following a 21-10, 21-13 victory over campatriot Aurum Oktavia Winata that lasted 27 minutes.

17-year-old Malaysian fourth seed Jin Wei Goh defeated Thailand's tenth seed Chananchida Jucharoen 21-12, 21-5, in just 21 minutes.

China's fifth seed Yue Han defeated compatriot Meng Zhou 21-13, 21-10 and will now face  Jin Wei Goh. 

In the men's singles 16-year-old Thai top seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn defeated Japanese 18-year-old Takuma Obayashi, 25-23, 21-15 in 45 minutes.

He will now face China's Gao Zhengze who came from behind to defeat Ireland's Nhat Nguyen 18-21, 21-18, 21-7 in a little under an hour.

India's Lakshya Sen, the second seed, was sent tumbling by Japan's sixth seed Kodai Naraoka who triumphed 14-21, 21-17, 21-14 in 66 minutes.

He will now face Malaysian fourth seed Jun Hao Leong who triumphed 21-14, 21-12 over France's Christo Popov in 36 minutes.
