A strong field is guaranteed at the Qatar Foundation Recreation Centre and Al Shaqab Arena as only the top 18 athletes on the men's and women's athletes are invited to compete in the event due to take place tomorrow and Sunday (October 22). 

The event begins with a 200 metres freestyle swim.

A round robin of épée fencing will then take place before the fencing bonus round, with show jumping following on a course with 12 obstacles.

Champions will then be crowned after a combined shoot and run using a laser pistol.

Germany will be hoping to repeat their success at the 2016 edition of the event as the country claimed the gold medal in both the men's and women's competitions.

Patrick Dogue triumphed in the men's event and Annika Schleu, the current world number eight, topped the women's podium.

Qatar hosted the first Champion of Champions event in 2015 and then reached an agreement with the UIPM to stage the 2015, 2016 and 2017 editions.

"The magical city of Doha is staging this competition for the fourth time and we know that this is always a highlight of the season for our athletes, coaches and fans watching all around the world," UIPM President Klaus Schormann said.

"We know that we can expect a high-class modern pentathlon event amid the high-quality facilities in the Qatar Foundation Recreation Centre and Al Shaqab Arena.
