China's Zhengze Gao stunned third seed Chia Hao-lee of Chinese Taipei to reach the fifth round of the men's singles tournament at the Badminton World Federation World Junior Championships in Yogyakarta.

The unseeded Chinese player produced a superb performance as he beat Chia 21-17, 21-6 at the GOR Among Rogo Arena.

The win takes Chia to within one round of the quarter-finals and he will take on 11th seed Arnaud Merkle of France in the round of 16 tomorrow.

Top seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand had no such trouble as he comfortably progressed with victory over Jia Wei Joel Koh of Singapore.

The 16-year-old Thai star, who was pushed all the way in his third-round clash yesterday, overcame his opponent 21-18, 21-9 in 27 minutes.

He will go on to face Ko Shing Hei of Hong Kong, with a spot in the last eight at stake.

Vitidsarn was joined in the last 16 by second seed Lakshya Sen of India, who proved too strong for Li Shifeng as he ousted the Chinese player 21-16, 21-11.

Indonesian hope Muhammad Diaz awaits for Sen in the next round.

Women's top seed Pattarasuda Chaiwan, also of Thailand, was pushed all the way by South Korea's Se Young An as she battled through in three games.

The world number 128 had been in impressive form in the early stages but met her match in Se before progressing with a 22-20, 9-21, 22-20 win in 10 minutes shy of an hour.

Qi Xuan Eoon of Malaysia will be Chaiwan's opponent tomorrow.
