Uğur Erdener has been unanimously re-elected unopposed as World Archery President for a fourth four-year term at the Federation’s 2017 Congress in Mexico City.

The 67-year-old Turkish physician, who first took over the position in 2005, will now supervise the World Archery Championships that take place in the Mexican capital from October 15-22 at Campo Marte and Zocalo.

A professor of Ophthalmology at Hacettepe University, Erdener is one of the busiest sporting officials in the world.

He was appointed a vice-president of the International Olympic Committee at last year’s Congress before Rio 2016 and sits on the World Anti-Doping Agency Executive Committee and Foundation Board.

Erdener also chairs the IOC Medical and Scientific Commission and is President of the Turkish Olympic Committee.

"Thank you for your ongoing support,” said Erdener as he addressed delegates at the 52nd World Archery Congress.

"It is a pleasure and an honour to continue as President of World Archery, one of the most forward-thinking, proactive and unified families in the world of international sport.

“I look forward to working with our Member Federations to further grow the important Olympic sport of archery, make continued progress in areas of good governance, clean sport and universality, and make significant strides towards World Archery’s vision of a world in which everyone has the opportunity to make archery their activity of choice."

Colombia’s Maria Emma Gaviria and Sanguan Kosavinta of Thailand were re-elected vice-presidents.

Greg Easton of the United States, Vladimir Esheev of Russia and Aladin Gabr of Egypt were re-appointed as members of the Executive Board.

The World Archery Championships are due to begin in the Mexican capital on Monday (October 16).
