Mexico booked their place in the last 16 of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup with a goalless draw against Chile in India.

The two sides could not be separated during a tense Group F contest at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati.

Roberto de la Rosa and Jairo Torres both had good chances for Mexico in the first half but neither could convert.

Both teams struggled to fashion any clear-cut opportunities in the second half as the match ended in a draw, which was enough for Mexico to qualify in third place.

Mexico, the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football champions, are due to take on Iran in the first knockout round.

England completed their Group F campaign with a 100 per cent record as they cruised to a 4-0 victory over Iran at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.

Two goals from Daniel Loader, coupled with ones from Angel Gomes and Emile Smith Rowe, helped England, who had already qualified for the last 16, record a comfortable win.

England are now scheduled to meet Japan in the next round.

France matched England in claiming three wins out of three as they topped Group E by thrashing Honduras 5-1 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati.

Carlos Mejia had given Honduras a shock lead before France recovered and scored five unanswered goals through Wilson Isidor, two from Alexis Flips, Amine Gouiri and Yacine Adli.

France will meet Spain in the last 16, while Honduras take on Brazil.

Japan's last group game ended in a 1-1 draw with New Caledonia at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata, the first point the Pacific nation have ever claimed at a FIFA tournament.

The draw was enough to see Japan through to the knockout round.

The tournament resumes on Monday (October 16) after a rest day tomorrow with the first two matches in the round of 16 as Colombia play Germany and Paraguay play the United States.
