Nicaragua, Palau and Bosnia-Herzegovina have been excluded from World Archery at the body's Congress in Mexico City for failing to pay the required fees.

World Archery confirmed the exclusion of the three members on the opening day of the meeting in the Mexican capital as it follows the governing body's principle of "only maintaining active members".

Andorra, British Virgin Islands, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, St Kitts and Nevis, Sierra Leone and Turkeminstan were accepted as full members by the delegates at the Congress.

Solomon Islands and Togo have also been granted a return to the governing body as they were re-affiliated.

The Congress also decided to defer discussions on the possible axing of the World Indoor Championships following a proposal from Norway.

The Norwegian delegation submitted the motion after claiming the money used for the event should be invested into the Indoor World Cup circuit instead.

It is now due to be debated at the 2019 Congress in the Dutch city of  ’s-Hertogenbosch.

A proposal from World Archery Oceania to expand the Executive Board, which currently has 15 members, was rejected.

The decisions came after World Archery President Uğur Erdener, a vice-president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)and a member of the organisation's Executive Board, claimed the sport "enjoys a healthy presence as a core Olympic sport" during his opening speech.

"I can happily state that we now enjoy a healthy presence as a core Olympic sport, in the top half of the Olympic Programme, 13th among 26 sports in London and 28 sports in Rio,” he told the Congress.

IOC President Thomas Bach delivered a video message to the Congress, which praised the leadership of Erdener, due to be re-elected at the Congress to serve a fourth term as President.

"More people than ever before can enjoy the fascination of your wonderful sport," Bach said.

"You have every reason to look at the future with confidence.

"In this spirit of partnership and solidarity, I wish you all fruitful discussions and a successful Congress."
