Germany maintained their 100 per cent record in the goalball competition at the 2017 European Para Youth Games in the Italian region of Liguria today.

Following three victories yesterday, the Germans kept up their impressive start by adding two more today.

In their opening match today, Germany trailed Sweden 3-2 at half-time but a stunning second half display saw them run out 16-6 winners.

They then returned to the court immediately after to overcome Portugal 8-4.

The Portuguese team recovered by going on to win their other two matches today.

Romania were their victims on both occasions with Portugal narrowly winning 6-5 in the first match before beating them more comfortably 7-3 later on.

More than 600 Para-athletes from 26 countries are competing in eight sports at the event in Savona and Genoa, which is due to finish on Sunday (October 15).

Athletics, boccia, seven-a-side football, goalball, judo, sailing, swimming and table tennis are the sports on the programme at the Games, organised by the European Paralympic Committees in conjunction with the Italian Paralympic Committee.

The event is the fourth edition of the European Para Youth Games.

It was first held in Brno in the Czech Republic in 2011 and 2012 before Varazdin in Croatia hosted the 2015 Games.
