The 52nd World Archery Congress is due to be held in Mexico City tomorrow and Saturday (October 14). 

Erdener is the only candidate in the running for the sport's top job and is set to be re-elected for a fourth term having first taken over the position in 2005. 

A professor of Ophthalmology at Hacettepe University, the Turk is currently one of the busiest sporting officials.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) vice-president also sits on the World Anti-Doping Agency Executive Committee and Foundation Board.

He also chairs the IOC Medical and Scientific Commission and is President of the Turkish Olympic Committee.

Colombia's Maria Emma Gaviria and Thailand's Sanguan Kosavinta are set to renew their tenures as vice-presidents and are the only candidates for the two positions. 

The Congress comes on the eve of the World Archery Championships, due to start on Sunday (October 15) and last until October 22 at Campo Marte and Zocalo.

Also likely to be on the agenda in the Mexican capital is Russia's suspension by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

The Russian Paralympic Committee will remain banned until at least the next meeting of the IPC Taskforce responsible for monitoring the country's progress in meeting reinstatement criteria, scheduled for November. 

World Archery secretary general Tom Dielen has criticised the IPC decision to ban Russian athletes in Para-archery.

"Even though no athlete from archery nor our Russian Federation was mentioned at all in either of the McLaren Reports, a lot of resources and time were spent on this matter in the lead up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games and after the Games," the Belgian said.

"World Archery is still very much convinced that the decision by IPC to ban the Russian athletes was wrong since innocent athletes paid for the price of wrong doing in other sports.

"The Russian athletes competing at the Olympic Games had clearly demonstrated, due to our proactive target testing of Russian athletes following the Pound Report, that they were beyond any suspicion and therefore should be and subsequently were given permission to participate in Rio.

"Russia won a medal as a result.

"World Archery fully supported the IOC's strong decision, which was more courageous and more appropriate than the unilateral decision of the IPC."
