The Swiss watchmaker were presented with the bib by the International Ski Federation (FIS) when they attended their Technical Committee meetings in Zurich.

Juan-Carlos Capelli, the Longines vice president and head of international marketing, received the bib from FIS secretary general Sarah Lewis.

Lewis said the company have been a key supporter of the World Cup series throughout its history, as a partner and official timekeeper.

"Longines' partnership with the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup and World Championships provides our events and Organising Committees with the highest quality timing and data services to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the competition timing and scoring," Lewis said.

"The engagement from Longines to promote Alpine Skiing is a major factor in the outstanding collaboration with the company."

The Swiss-based luxury watch giants have been involved in Alpine ski racing since 1933.

They have always been a "leader" in the field of timekeeping, it is claimed, "pushing its expertise to the highest levels to measure the exploits of skiers".

Last year, Longines announced plans for a new chip attached to a skier's boot, to enable the real-time and continuous measurement of the athlete's speed, acceleration and deceleration.

During his visit to the Committee meeting, Capelli also met with officials from the Chinese Ski Association.

The FIS said the meeting occurred with China's future hosting of Alpine Ski World Cup events in mind.

China's capital Beijing is due to host the 2022 Winter Olympics.
