Under the terms of the distribution, the top 20 athletes will receive prize money from competitions.

A total of CHF40,000 (£31,000/$41,000/€35,000) is available at each World Cup event, with the money divided according to athletes' finishing position.

The proposal for the distribution split was based on athletes' proposals, leading to the sub-committee for the World and Continental Cups approving the move.

Changes to bonus seconds at the Tour de Ski have also been changed for sprint competitions, it was revealed.

The maximum bonus will remain at 60 seconds for the winner of races, however the FIS state the split for the top 30 athletes would change.

It is hoped the change will better reflect the efforts of the athletes who make it through to compete in the final heats.

An alteration was also made to this year's Cross-Country World Cup calendar, regarding the technique of competitions.

The Committee have stated that the individual start event on December 16 in Toblach will be in free technique style.

The pursuit event, which will take place at the Italian venue the following day, will be held in classic technique.

Discussions also continued on the strategy of cross-country skiing, with conclusions of an expert working group presented.

The group included FIS staff, television and marketing experts.

According to the FIS, concrete changes have been presented, with decisions on competition format modification due to take place at the governing body's Congress in Greece next year.

The FIS Council are set to rubber stamp the decisions made by the Committee at their next meeting in November.
