Lenzerheide has been named as the host of the 2021 Alpine World Cup Finals following a meeting of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Committee.

The Swiss venue was one of two candidates for the event, with Bansko in Bulgaria also submitting a bid.

An Alpine World Cup sub-committee stated that race directors inspected both competition sites and confirmed both venues would be able to host the event to a high standard.

A vote ultimately confirmed Lenzerheide as the host of the event, with the Finals set to take place there for the sixth time.

The Finals will feature the top 25 men's and women's skiers of the season.

World Cup calendars were also presented, with the forthcoming season confirmed to feature 79 competitions at 32 resorts.

The season will conclude with the finals in Åre, where the tracks and infrastructure at the Swedish venue will be tested prior to the 2019 World Championships.

Oslo is among the new events on the calendar, with a city event scheduled to be held in the Holmenkolm Arena of the Norwegian capital on January 1.

Courchevel will host a parallel slalom in France and Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany a two-run-downhill for the first time.

The decision was also taken to no longer appoint all the course setters at the beginning of the season, but instead make a draw five days prior to competition.

Agreed by the coaches' working group, the move is aimed at bringing greater suspense to the World Cup tour, as well as improving fairness.

It is believed the move will prevent teams from planning and training for specific combinations on courses.

The Committee also confirmed the move of the FIS Executive Board to discuss American star Lindsey Vonn's participation at the men's Lake Louise downhill event in 2018.

The FIS had initially said the proposal was for Vonn to race alongside men at a World Cup event in Lake Louise in Canada next month.

US Ski and Snowboard have claimed they had put forward the 2018 to 2019 season for the 32-year-old to be allowed to compete against her male counterparts.

The issue was discussed at the FIS Alpine Executive Board meeting in Zurich, where it was agreed to revisit the motion at their next meeting in Greece in May.

With the Olympic season approaching, no major rule changes were announced by the Alpine Committee.

The group expressed their confidence in Pyeongchang 2018's preparations for the Games, stating that the final inspection of the speed venue in Jeongseon and the technical venue in Yongpyong were positive.
