Nico Parlier gained two more race wins on the final day of competition at the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) KiteFoil GoldCup on Poetto Beach in Cagliari to claim a dominant overall victory.

The Frenchman won races 10 and 11 before finishing second in race 12.

It means he had only one finish outside the top two - in placing sixth in race three - across the four days of competition.

He finished on a superb haul of 13 points once his worst two score were discarded.

Fellow countryman Axel Mazella finished second in Sardinia despite a disappointing seventh place showing in race 10.

He swiftly recovered by placing second and first for a total of 26.

Defending champion Maxime Nocher, racing for Monaco, finished third a further three points behind.

British teenager Guy Bridge placed fourth on 40 points at the Italian venue.

His mother Steph Bridge won the corresponding women's competition after placing 25th overall in the open field.

France's Anais Mai Desjardins finished second in the women's category and 30th overall while Sabrina Schlossnikel of Germany managed third and 38th.

Kiteboarding is an extreme sport which combines wakeboarding, windsurfing, surfing, paragliding and gymnastics.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed last year between the International Kiteboarding Association, World Sailing and the Global Kitesports Association to achieve a new governance structure for the discipline.
