The National Olympic Committee of Cape Verde (COC) is preparing to host the 34th Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) secretary generals' seminar.

Between October 12 and 14, 54 secretary generals and guests of ANOCA member nations will gather to discuss "important management and leadership issues".

The title of the event is "Plan 2020: Steps: Organisation, Coordination, Implementation and Self-Evaluation" with the Hotel Belohorizonte-Sal in Santa Maria the host venue.

Also in attendance will be representatives from the International Olympic Committee and ANOCA President Lassana Palenfo, who visited Cape Verde last year to oversee preparations for the event.

The seminar is held annually, with São Tomé and Príncipe playing host last year.

The opening session will take place on October 12 and will be attended by Cape Verde Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva, Sports Minister Fernando Elísio Freire and COC President Filomena Fortes.

Cape Verde has been named as host of the 2019 African Beach Games.

Competition is expected to take place in the village of Santa Maria on Sal island, one of 10 islands which make up Cape Verde.

It was announced last month that 23 sports will feature including beach handball, taekwondo, beach rowing and aquathlon.

No date has yet been announced, but the event is provisionally set to take place in the same year as the first Association of National Olympic Committees World Beach Games in San Diego.
