Cuba's Manrique Larduet qualified in top spot in the all-around standings as men's qualification came to a close at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Montreal.

Larduet, winner of the all-around silver medal at the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow, finished with a score of 86.699 points at the Montreal Olympic Stadium.

The 21-year-old had registered the total yesterday and none of the other competing gymnasts were able to overtake him at the summit of the leaderboard today.

China's Xiao Ruoteng came closest as he amassed 86.297 points across the six apparatus.

David Belyavskiy of Russia, a double Olympic medallist, qualified in third place on 85.839 points.

The all-around final on Thursday (October 5) is expected to be wide-open affair due to the absence of Kōhei Uchimura, the Japanese star who was bidding for a seventh consecutive title before he suffered an injury during his qualification round yesterday.

Ukrainian gymnast Oleg Verniaiev, who pushed Uchimura all the way in the all-around competition at last year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro before being forced to settle for the silver medal, is among the favourites and qualified in fifth.

Verniaiev will also be hoping to add the world title to his Olympic gold on the parallel bars, qualifying for the apparatus final in top spot on 15.466.

Reigning Olympic and world champion Eleftherios Petrounias remains on course to add to his considerable collection of major rings gold medals as he booked his place in the final of the apparatus on 15.400 points.

The International Gymnastics Federation later confirmed the Jury of Appeal had granted Tomas Gonzalez of Chile a place in the floor final.

Gonzalez appealed after a joining rail of the Floor's structure moved out of place, causing instability on a small part of the floor and affecting his score.

The decision means the men's floor final will feature nine gymnasts rather than the usual 8.

Canada's Elsabeth Black leads the way after the first subdivisions in women's qualifying after she scored 55.766 points across the four apparatus.

Elena Eremina of Russia is currently second on 54.999 points, with Nina Derwael of Belgium third on 53.598.

Women's qualification is due to conclude tomorrow.
