India's Rohit Sharma has moved up to number five on the International Cricket Council (ICC) one-day international rankings for batsmen following an inspired performance in the recent home series against Australia.

Sharma jumped four places after scoring 296 runs in the series against the Australians, which his side won 4-1.

It included a superb 125 in the last match in Nagpur yesterday, which inspired India to a convincing seven-wicket victory.

Sharma is now on a career-best 790 rating points but his highest ranking remains number three, achieved in February 2016.

The Indian batsman is behind England's Joe Root, AB de Villiers of South Africa, Australia's David Warner and team-mate Virat Kohli, who leads the rankings on 877 points.

Warner, who hit 53 in the defeat to India yesterday, has managed to close the gap to Kohli to 12 points.

England's Jonny Bairstow is among the biggest movers on the rankings list as he has jumped 48 places to 40th after he scored 141 in his team's win over the West Indies in Southampton last week, which saw the hosts wrap up a 4-0 series victory.

South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir has regained the top spot in the one-day international bowling standings.

Tahir, who has 718 points, has usurped Australian fast-bowler Josh Hazlewood, who lost 18 points after missing the series with India due to a side strain.

India’s left-arm spinner Akshar Patel has reached a career best seventh position after moving up three places.
