Hosts Slovenia began their TF4-5 competition in impressive fashion at the European Para Table Tennis Championships as team action got underway.

Andreja Dolinar and Barbara Meglic produced an impressive performance in their first round robin tie, as the duo beat Britain’s Susan Gilroy and Megan Shackleton 2-1.

Russia also secured a victory as Nadejda Pushpasheva and Aleksandra Vasileva achieved a 2-0 win over the German pair of Sandra Mikolaschek and Lisa Anna Maria Hentig.

The TF6-8 competition saw France’s Thu Kamkasomphou and Anne Barneoud earn a victory in Group A.

They overcame Norwegian opposition 2-1 in their opening match and will seek to continue their impressive start when they face Ukraine tomorrow.

The Russian squad of Ulija Shishkina, Raisa Chebanika and Victoriya Safonova celebrated a victory in Group B.

A strong performance saw them beat the Swedish team 2-0.

Russia will aim to claim back-to-back wins when they meet Germany tomorrow.

A closely fought TF9-10 class match between Hungary and Israel saw the former secure a 2-1 victory to begin Group A in strong fashion.

Hungary were joined at the top of the standings by Turkey, who were 2-0 winners against Germany.

There was success for Denmark and Poland in Group B, with both nations securing 2-0 triumphs against Russia and Romania in their respective ties.

Team competitions are due to continue tomorrow, with the Championships due to end on October 5.
