In a bid to create public support for the 2019 Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk, non-profit enterprises are being invited to get involved in creating suitable projects.

These could involve competitions in the sports involved, concerts, arrangements of the thematic area or special events.

It is essential, though, that any such projects should involve at least 50 people and should have both a social and a sporting dimension, Russian organisers have said.

The judging panel will include local cultural, sports, media and branding experts, and they will look at the significance of the project, audience coverage, cost-benefit ratio, the author's experience and the use of new methods and technologies.

"We are at the stage of active preparation for the Games and we want to draw the attention of the population, telling a lot of interesting things about this unique event, therefore our goal is to motivate people to come to Krasnoyarsk and feel the atmosphere of the high-performance sports, as well as increase the interest of young people in sports," Maxim Urazov, head of the executive directorate of the 29th Winter Universiade, said.

Urazov added: "We can do all this with the help of new initiatives,"

The Universiade is due to take place from March 2 to 12 in 2019 and will involve 76 disciplines in 11 sports.

Krasnoyarsk is Siberia's third-largest city, with a population of over one million.

Applications should be submitted before October 25.
