The United Arab Emirates have won the consolation prize at the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Nations Cup Jumping final in Barcelona.

It is the fifth consecutive year that the season-ending competition is taking place at the Real Club de Polo in the Catalan city.

The Challenge Cup is for the seven teams who failed to make it through to tomorrow's deciding class from the qualification round.

The UAE finished top of the standings on three points.

Abdullah Humaid Al Muhairi produced a clear run while his teammates posted scores of one and two faults in their respective performances.

Newly-crowned European champions Ireland were unlucky not to make it through to the deciding class.

They posted the slowest combined time in comparison to the three other teams they were level with to miss out.

Ireland responded to that disappointment by claiming second today, though, with nine faults.

Brazil rounded out the medal positions after finishing with 11 faults.

Action is due to conclude tomorrow with the deciding class.

Defending champions Germany, France, the United States, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, and Sweden are all due to be in action.
