Johannes Rydzek has entered the Guinness Book of World Records having conducted the steepest 50 metre sprint in the world.

The German Nordic combined athlete is better known for his feats heading down a ski slope, but the six-time world champion has now shown prowess heading in the opposite direction.

Rydzek participated in the challenge with parkour athlete Alexander Schauer at the Heini Klopfer Ski Flying Hill in Oberstdorf in Germany.

The event, named ContiGripRun 2017, received the support of tire manufacturer Continental and clothes manufacturer Adidas.

Rydzek was able to sprint up the jumping hill in a time of 27.67sec following four attempts at the run.

The requirement to achieve the first world record in the event was 35 seconds, with official judge Pauline Sapinska confirming the feat.

"It was a cool result and it is a big honour to be present in the Guinness Book of World Records now," said Rydzek.

"The last ten metres were incredibly tough.

"I was glad I could rely on the shoes to give me the much-needed grip."

Fellow competitor Schauer ended four seconds adrift of Rydzek's time during the event, which saw both men run at a consistent angle of 37 degrees.

The hill had been specifically prepared, with the aim of enabling running and the safety of participants.

Rydzek will now turn his attentions to the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics, with the 25-year-old seeking to secure his first gold medal.

He won a team bronze at Vancouver 2010, before securing a relay silver medal four years later at Sochi 2014.
