Minsk remains confident of staging a successful European Games in 2019 following an inspection visit by a group of international experts.

The European Olympic Committees (EOC) Coordination Commission completed its first official visit to the Belarus capital today.

“The EOC is confident about the good organization of the upcoming Games," Minsk 2019 chief executive Georgy Katulin told Belarus' state-run news agency BelTA.

"Experts have worked for two days.

"They have got no serious complaints.

"During today's final session, chairman of the EOC Coordination Commission Spyros Capralos noted that the preparations for the European Games kicked off on the right foot but it is important to keep up the pace,"

Katulin claimed the EOC Coordination Commission's one area of minor concern was the Athletes' Village.

"The only thing the EOC insists on is that wifi should cover the largest area possible," Katulin told BelTA.

"Another point is catering. I do not think this is a difficult task for the organisers."

Minsk, only awarded the European Games in October 2016 after the EOC struggled to find a replacement for The Netherlands, who had dropped out the previous year, plans to begin recruiting consultants from abroad to help its preparations.

"Belarus plans to engage as many domestic specialists as possible, and also invite foreign experts, so that the 2019 European Games become a good experience for our sports managers who would arrange other top-notch events later on,” Katulin said.
