Registration is due to remain open until October 8.

Described as a traditional proving ground for future champions at the elite world and Olympic levels, previous editions of the Women’s Junior and Youth World Championships have taken place in Taiwan’s capital Taipei in 2015, Bulgarian resort Albena in 2013 and Turkish city Antalya in 2011.

"These prestigious Championships underline AIBA’s determination to further develop women’s boxing around the world and its commitment to the grassroots development of the noble art," an AIBA statement reads.

"Guwahati 2017 will offer another opportunity for the next generation of talented female boxers to perform on the biggest international stage."

Uncertainty surrounds hosts India’s preparations for the event after the country’s first foreign coach for female boxers resigned last week.

Frenchman Stephane Cottalorda quit within a month of taking up the role after complaining of a delay in salary payment and a lack of professionalism in the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).

He e-mailed his resignation to the BFI, stating that he could no longer wait for the fulfilment of promises made to him.

Indian boxer Mary Kom, the London 2012 Olympic bronze medallist at flyweight, said the development was "very disappointing".

Cottalorda alleged that he frequently expressed his concerns to the BFI, which did not act on them.

He did, however, wish the BFI "good results" at the 2017 ASBC Asian Women's Championships, which are scheduled to take place in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam from November 2 to 12.
