China's Bing Ye has grabbed hold of the men's lead after the third day of racing at the RS:X Windsurfing World Championships in Japan.

Ye produced three consistent displays today, moving top of the standings with fourth, sixth and second place finishes on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic course in Enoshima.

It puts him on an overall score of 21 points, three clear of his nearest rival.

Bing's compatriot, Mengfan Gao, moved up to second in the standings after he finished second, first and discarded a 16th in today's three races.

Mateo Sanz Lanz of Switzerland is in third after finishing eighth, fourth and ninth.

France's Louis Giard held the overall lead going into today's racing but endured a miserable day, posting a 22nd, a discarded 24th and 12th.

Poland's Piotr Myszka, the reigning world champion, seems to be struggling with conditions and scored a 12th, 11th and 11th today to move into 13th overall.

Jiahui Wu leads the way though on 25 points, after posting a discarded 21st, a race win and a fourth place finish today.

Peina Chen finds herself down in second after leading this morning.

She discarded her 12th in today's first race before adding a second and seventh later on.

Poland's Zofia Noceti Klepacka is in third, five points behind Wu, after crossing the line in 10th twice today before discarding her 22nd in race three.

Three more races in each category are scheduled for tomorrow before the medal races bring the event to a close on Saturday (September 23).

The event has beaten the weather after initially being threatened by a tropical cyclone.
