Turkey were hoping to repeat their double-success from 2015 in Kaunas, when the country's men's and women's teams both claimed European titles.

The men's team, however, were knocked out by Sweden at the Pajulahti Sports Institute in Nastola.

After trailing 1-0 at half-time, the Swedes mounted a sublime comeback as they eventually claimed a narrow 3-2 win.

Their prize is a semi-final against Germany, who defeated hosts Finland 8-5 today.

Belgium and Lithuania will contest the second semi-final.

The Belgians overcame Ukraine 8-5 today while Lithuania proved too strong for the Czech Republic in the fourth and final quarter-final, winning 6-3.

Hope still remains for Turkey to retain one of their titles as the women's team are through to the last four.

They thrashed hosts Finland 6-0 in the first quarter-final of the day.

Standing between them and a place in the final is Greece after they won a low-scoring match against Great Britain 2-1.

Israel and Denmark played out a thrilling contest in their quarter-final.

The two teams produced 12 points but it was the Israelis who went through 7-5.

They are now due to play Russia for a place in the final after Germany were soundly beaten 5-2.

There were also two classification matches played today.

Slovenia thumped Great Britain 12-5 to secure ninth place in the men's competition while Ukraine defeated Sweden 5-4 in overtime to secure the same position in the women's.
