A teenager has praised the work of the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF) after the organisation helped her take up the martial art at a refugee camp in Rwanda.

Ingabire, who is 16-years-old, was born at the Kiziba Refugee Camp in the African country.

She was one of the first students to begin taekwondo training under the banner of the THF, which works to teach the sport and stage educational programmes with refugees and displaced people around the world.

"Taekwondo has boosted my self-confidence as a woman," Ingabire said.

"It has given me hope for a better future."

Ingabire said she was "always eager" to learn a martial art.

THF projects are also up and running in Jordan, Turkey, Djibouti and Nepal.

World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue officially announced his plan to establish the THF in his speech at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, on the 2015 International Day of Peace.
