Six candidates are seeking positions as road representatives on the International Cycling Union (UCI) Athletes’ Commission, with one man and woman set to be elected.

Dutch rider Iris Slappendel has been serving on the Commission, but the 32-year-old is seeking to secure a further four-year term.

She will face the challenge of fellow Dutchwoman Marianne Vos, the London 2012 road race champion and three-time gold medallist in the discipline at the UCI Road World Championships.

Italian cyclist Elena Valentini is the third candidate for the women’s position on the Commission.

Jean-Christophe Péraud, who retired last year, has put himself forward as one of the three men’s candidates.

The 40-year-old finished second at the Tour de France in 2014.

Austria’s Bernhard Eisel and Italy’s Davide Vigano are the other two riders seeking the position on the Commission.

All elite riders participating at the UCI Road World Championships in Bergen will be eligible to vote for the candidates.

Athletes will have four opportunities to vote, with the final chance coming on September 21.

To be eligible, candidates must be currently active in the sport or have retired within the last four years before the election date.

Germany’s Kristina Vogel and Kenny De Ketele of Belgium were then chosen for track cycling, while the BMX representatives were Laura Smulders of the Netherlands and Britain’s Liam Phillips.

Poland’s Maja Wloszczowska, Switzerland’s Lukas Flückiger, France’s Myriam Nicole and Greg Minnaar of South Africa were elected as mountain bike representatives earlier this month.

The election took place at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Cairns, with two cyclists chosen to represent the cross-country discipline and two for downhill.

Sarah Storey of Britain and Ireland’s Colin Lynch were elected to be para-cycling representatives earlier this month.

Their terms will last for four-years, taking the cyclist up to the 2021 UCI Congress.
