Lin Gaoyuan and Fan Zhendong will face each other in an all-Chinese men’s singles final at the 2017 International Table Tennis Federation Asian Cup after both came through their penultimate round encounters today in Indian city Ahmedabad.

The first semi-final of the day at the Trans Stadia venue saw Lin claim an emphatic 11-5, 12-10, 15-13 ,11-7 victory for over Chinese Taipei’s Chen Chien-An.

Top seed Fan was equally as convincing in beating South Korea’s Lee Sangsu 11-5, 11-9, 11-8, 11-7.

Both were made to work harder in their quarter-finals earlier in the day with Lin defeating South Korea’s Jeong Sangeun 6-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-6, 11-5 and Fan overcoming Japan’s Jun Mizutani 11-8, 11-13, 16-14, 11-5, 11-8.

In the women’s singles vent, triple world champion Zhu Yuling of China secured her place in the final with a comfortable 13-11, 11-8, 11-2, 12-10 win over Japan’s Miu Hirano.

Awaiting her in the final is compatriot Liu Shiwen, a team Olympic champion at Rio 2016, after she beat Japan’s Kasumi Ishikawa 15-13, 11-3, 9-11, 13-11, 9-11, 11-6.

Zhu had earlier defeated Chinese Taipei's Cheng I-Ching 11-5, 11-3, 11-2, 11-3 in the quarter-finals, while Liu overcame South Korea's Suh Hyowon 11-4, 8-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-1, 8-11, 11-3.

Both finals are scheduled to take place tomorrow.
