Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn has announced that her first event of the upcoming International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Skiing World Cup season will be at Lake Louise in December.

The Vancouver 2010 downhill Olympic champion will not take part in earlier events and will instead wait for the downhill and super-G races at the Alberta resort.

Vonn's record at the venue is excellent and stands at 18 wins in 41 World Cup starts.

The American made the admission in a Facebook live video, which can be watched here.

After being asked by a fan if she would be competing in Soelden in Austria, Vonn revealed she would not be taking to the snow until the Lake Louise leg.

Racing is due to take place in Lake Louise between December 1 and December 3.

Vonn is considered as the most successful downhill skier of all time, having won 77 World Cup races in her career, and highlighted her ambition to compete at next year's Winter Olympics in the video.

"Pyeongchang 2018 is 100 per cent what I am focused on right now," she said.

"I was disappointed not to be at Sochi 2014 because of injury but hopefully this Olympics will be a good one.

"It may be my last, we will have to see, but I am definitely preparing for it and hopefully I can do well."

She has won four overall FIS World Cup titles, and won a second Olympic medal in Vancouver by bagging bronze in the super-G.

In addition, Vonn won the downhill and super-G titles at the World Championships in Val-d'Isère in France in 2009.
