Olympic champions Brazil returned to winning ways and ended the 100 per cent record of Iran at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World Grand Champions Cup in Japan.

The Brazilians, the defending champions, lost their last outing to Italy who took revenge in a repeat of the Rio 2016 final.

They bounced back today by rolling past Iran, who had won two matches out of two, in straight sets at Osaka's Municipal Central Gymnasium.

Brazil, who are looking for a fourth Grand Champions Cup title in a row, came through 25-22, 25-19, 25-15.

Four countries now have a record of two victories, one defeat at the round-robin tournament - Brazil, Iran, United States and Italy.

They are separated in the group by points ratio with the US now top of the pile.

The Americans recovered from their defeat to Iran by beating France in straight sets, 25-20, 25-17, 25-16.

There was also another win for Italy, who condemned hosts Japan to a third consecutive defeat.

The Olympic silver medallists triumphed 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22.

With no final or knock-out matches to be played, the winners of the tournament will be the team which finishes top of the round-robin.

Two matches remain for each country.

The US will play Brazil tomorrow with France meeting Italy and Japan taking on Iran.

The event features four continental champions, hosts Japan and Italy, who are playing as the FIVB's wildcard.

All three of the final rounds are taking place in Osaka after the first two were played in Nagoya.
