Slovenia stunned reigning champions Spain 92-72 to reach the final of EuroBasket in Istanbul.

The Spanish were heavily fancied to make it back-to-back titles in the Turkish city but they came up against inspired opposition who have reached their first final.

At half-time the game was in the balance with the Slovenians just four points ahead, but they turned on the afterburners after the break.

They out-scored Spain by 12 points in the third quarter and then by four in the fourth to complete a memorable win at the Sinan Erdem Dome.

Slovenia, ranked 12th in the world compared to Spain's second, had a previous best finish of fourth at EuroBasket, achieved in 2009.

Jaka Blazic started the second half surge with two lay-ups as his side scored the first six points to lead by double figures.

Spain never made it back into contention as Slovenian 18-year-old Luca Doncic again excelled with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Slovenians netted 14 out of their 25 three-point attempts while Spain found the target just seven times from 27 efforts.

Slovenia will play Russia or Serbia in Sunday's (September 17) final with their last four clash in Istanbul tomorrow.
